In the packet, on the page with the outline. what does roman numeral 5 mean?

Anonymous said...

for the body paragraphs, do we have to do one paragraph on how it relates to humanity with the book and then another paragraph on how it relates to humanity with me?

Anonymous said...

Do we have to put the last name of the author in the quote?

Ex. "She had no evening clothes,
no jewels, nothing. But those were the things she wanted; she felt that was the kind of life for her" (Maupassant 161).

Anonymous said...

The STRUCTURE I gave in outline form has V as "conclusion". The Roman Numeral is just the numbered order for the next section of your paper.

Anonymous said...

BODY PARAGRAPHS: The enire paper should discuss how the story reveals your one aspect of humanity. SO, it should NOT be one paragraph on humanity and one paragraph on a personal connection. The personal connection will be one example in one of your paragraphs.

Anonymous said...

For the the article "the secrets of storytelling", when we write the name of the article should we put Jeremy Hsu's name in parentheses after the name of the article that we put in ""

Anonymous said...

I mean the roman numeral 4.

Anonymous said...

When we show examples from the story, do we have to write the quote? or can we just explain what happened in the story?

Anonymous said...

The LAST NAME of the author belongs inside the citation quotes, most of the time. You only put the page number when the author is already mentioned in your sentence. Since you have already listed the name, you do not need to repeat it in the () of the citation.

Anonymous said...

are we working on our body parragraph or are we just revising our intro ?
(\_/)
(=.=)

Anonymous said...

hey do we have to make titles for every paragraph that we turn in?

Anonymous said...

what is a good quote from the storytelling article related to "What would you be able to give for someone you truly love?"

N. LaBeau said...

STORYTELLING ARTICLE CITATIONS: If you do not mention the author's name in your sentence, put his last name in front of the page number inside the paranthesis:

ljfljoeuoitue" (Hsu 46).

Otherwise, if you put his name in your sentence, just the page number: According to Jeremey Hsu's article, "fjljflej" (46).

Anonymous said...

hi

Anonymous said...

In our Intro what are the check marks?

Anonymous said...

ROMAN NUMERAL IV:
Remember that I just supplied a sample structure; you are supplying the information, and everyone's will be a little different. SO, IV-you may have another main point to write about, you may not, hence, "another?"

Anonymous said...

When we show examples from the story, do we have to write the quote? or can we just explain what happened in the story?

I meant the body paragraph

Anonymous said...

STORY EXAMPLES:
They do not have to be lines from the story. They do have to be specific enough in your use of them to be concrete, specific examples.

Anonymous said...

How do we put in the header?

Anonymous said...

I'm confused

Anonymous said...

does the period go before or after the quote marks

Anonymous said...

check marks in my grading are "good point" indicators.

Joe, keep on looking to find your quote! Maybe someone else will respond to your question!

Hi back to you!

Anonymous said...

do we have to double space in our writing/typing

Anonymous said...

;]

Anonymous said...

CITATION: period goes after the paranthesis..... "( ).

HEADER: go to 'view' and then 'header' ...you can tab over and type your last name, space bar, and use the mouse to click the icon that will insert the proper page number.

TITLE: You only title your paper, not each paragraph. The title should be original for your orignal essay.

Anonymous said...

Do we have to put the storytelling article quotes in the body paragraph?

Anonymous said...

does there have to be a quote in every body paragraph ?

Anonymous said...

Joe, a good quote from the storytelling article related to "What would you be able to give for someone you truly love?" would probably have something to do with either the boy/ girl stuff on pg. 50, or something from the behavior stuff in the last 2 paragraphs of pg. 51

Anonymous said...

STORYTELLING ARTICLE QUOTES: I required one in the introduction. If you use more from the article, it is your choice. You do not HAVE to put them in your body paragraphs, but if they fit and you explain them and it suits your writing to make it better, you can.

Anonymous said...

Where do we save the document so we can open it, at home, off the Fremd website?

Anonymous said...

Do we have to double space between lines in our whole paper??????????

Anonymous said...

ahh...i found one woohhh......hahahahaha thanks

Anonymous said...

SAVEing: When you save to your 'H:' drive, you can access it from home via the www.fhs.d211.org site by clicking on "Netstorage" and following the directions.

Anonymous said...

is the H drive the drive with our name?

Anonymous said...

DOUBLE SPACE: Your entire paper. No quadruple spacing. Make it all look the same.

EXCELLENT helping one another by answering some of these posts! Good cooperation!

Anonymous said...

is it ms. or mrs. labeau

Anonymous said...

could we save to the computer and then bring a usb drive next time

Anonymous said...

it is ms. i think. that is what i put on my paper

Anonymous said...

for a quote from the book, do we have to put the "quote" the "story" then (page number)?

Anonymous said...

Ms. LaBeau.

SAVE-Yes, bring a usb tomorrow. OR use Netstorage.

Anonymous said...

hi!!!! haha

Anonymous said...

in class tomorrow, will we have time to write or start our body paragraphs?

Anonymous said...

I know you want to be, Like Joey G.

Anonymous said...

I know you want to be, Like Joey G.

Anonymous said...

I know you want to be, Like Joey G.

Anonymous said...

what do u put for the titles for each thing think the body paragraphs??????????????

Anonymous said...

Wednesday we have computer lab time, I believe, to continue to write; otherwise, we will write in class.

Anonymous said...

Body paragraphs do not have titles for the paragraph. I'm not sure what Mike W is asking...

Anonymous said...

For the body paragraphs, is one paragraph supposed to be the connection to yourself?

Anonymous said...

Personal connections are not an entire paragraph part of your essay. It is one example, specific in a part of your paper.

Anonymous said...

hey, Ms. LaBeau ^.^ when you said "it should NOT be one paragraph on humanity and one paragraph on a personal connection." did you mean that it should all be about humanity? i understand that we should have connections in every paragraph, but can we have one paragraph talking directly about the story and humanity, and another talking directly about storytelling and humanity; sorry if this doesn't make sense >.<

Anonymous said...

Is this a more understandable theory?
The humanity is shown through the kings barbarities and the princesses choice between love or to betray.

Anonymous said...

I have thought of another question
Their are some ideas in my paper that are easily compaered to todays society. Can we add a sentence on to the end of that idea about todays society?

Anonymous said...

Is there anything due tomorrow?

Anonymous said...

How do we put the last name and page number in the margin?

Anonymous said...

is it okay if we spend most of the first body paragraph explaining the story for clarity ?

Anonymous said...

how many sentences should be in a body paragraph?

Anonymous said...

Sarah, see me on your thesis; I've some re-wording suggestions.

DUE-the next due date is Thursday, for the final draft of the entire paper

HEADER-see earlier comment post

BODY PARAGRAPHS- # of sentences may vary...consider MEL-Con or a modified MEL-Con if you are stuck. SUMAMRY should not be an entire paragraph. Sentences about the story will be necessary, but, like the summer reading, I don't want a summary of the story; I want your analysis of the story. SO, a body paragraph should not be just a summary.

CONNECTING TO TODAY- YES, state the connection you see; that would be wonderful!

Anonymous said...

i have a mac computer and i do not know how to make the margian 1"?

Anonymous said...

how do i say, "it's not easy to give up your most prized possession for someone you love." without saying you? or can i do that?

Anonymous said...

do i have to put a quote from the storytelling article in my essay or does a quote from the text work just as well?

Anonymous said...

when the conclusions were corrected, what does it mean when there is a squigly line under a phrase.
On my paper i wrote "... had gotten rid of..." and it had a squigly line under it. What does that mean?

Anonymous said...

Ms. Labeau, I was looking at my conclusion quickly and I can't figure out how to edit the last sentence to make it less confusing (I got a 3 on it). Did you want me to explain it more, or should I just reword it?

"Harsh as it may seem, every single person does this; the only difference is the perspective you have."

Thanks in advance.

Anonymous said...

for the header how do we put our last name and page number in the margin?

Anonymous said...

my thesis: humanity would scarfice anything just to show someone how much they loved them
-can my subpoints be:
1. Della: why and how della gave up \her possesion
2. Jim why and how jim gave up his posseion

Anonymous said...

nevermind about the squiggly line

Anonymous said...

In the conclusion paragraph can I use the words "In conclusion", or would that not be a good phrase to use?

Anonymous said...

dear ms. labeau,

I was just wondering what the notes on the essay meant when they said:
(clarity)=>explain
=>what you mean
(proof)=>example
=>show example
(clarity)=>explain example
=>links<->*focus

sincerely,
Ethan Wieczorek

Ms.LaBeau,
You already graded my conclusion paragraph. Should i still keep typing it like you said or not because you graded it?

Sincerly,
Steven Dodgen

Anonymous said...

I'm at home and I'm going to do the rest of my paper but i did most of the work in school and I'm having trouble trying to get my paper onto this computer i think I'm doing something wrong how do i get it on my computer?

Anonymous said...

do we need to have a bibliography for our essay tomorrow?

Anonymous said...

Ms. LaBeau,

when I was talking about the notes I meant the notes for the body paragraphs, not the notes for the whole paper itself. (even though the body paragraphs are part of the whole paper

Anonymous said...

is this a good opening for a bosy paragraph. '“Dogstar” first shows a human’s capacity for love when the narrator sees Laika abandoned on the side of the road as he is going to the scientific laboratory, and how he wants to keep on driving but his heart won’t let him, and the story even says “Though I have never liked dogs, or indeed any animals, it was impossible to leave this helpless little creature to the mercy of passing cars” (pg. 34, column 1).'

Anonymous said...

is a four paragraph essay okay

Anonymous said...

What is the thesis sub-point?

Anonymous said...

sorry for asking late, but what does "linking explanation" mean

Anonymous said...

can the personal example/ connection be in your final thought (like using your own experiences to make the audience think about what you said).

p.s. you should think about finding a way to use blogger.com to clear al of the comments.

p.s.s. sorry for being so late to ask

Anonymous said...

STEPHEN -conclusion is done; just the final paper tomorrow.
BIBLIOGRAPHY-is not needed for Thursday.
NETSTORAGE- keep trying; it does work...another emailed trouble, but then got it to work.
PARAGRAPHS-you need to have as many as it takes to successfully defend, explain, and support your concept/thesis.
"LINKING/EXPLANATION"-depending on what you are looking at.....linking is a sentence that links the point/idea/example to the main point or thesis, it can also be a sentence that bridges two other ideas; explanation means a sentence that explains the previous example.
SUB-POINT-I'm not sure what you're referring to, Ken. Your thesis is done , isn't it? The sub point in refernce may be one of the main points you will write about to help support your thesis.

Anonymous said...

Jack, i believe that that means that means to explain your link to the story

Anonymous said...

Ethan, yes. As for ealier comments, my hope is that people will read them for answers that I've already answered, at least for now. But I appreciate your suggestion for making this easier to use for all of us.

Anonymous said...

thank you. i've been on the computer since 5:30, and i got a lot don in study hall.

p.s. thanks for the pass

Anonymous said...

so if i was writing on gift of the magi, and my 1st body paragrapf is basically introducing Della. what would a linking explanation sentence be?

Anonymous said...

I had trouble with the header and their has to be a box.

Anonymous said...

Jack, I'd have to be clear on more of your paper, but the linking needs to be direct statements saying clearly how Della (more specific --whate ever aspect you are addressing in the 1st paragraph)...and saying HOW is ties back to your main point or thesis.

Anonymous said...

Ken, wasn't the problem with your hearder when I marked on it the "#" you had? Can't you just backspace it away? Problem Solve!

Anonymous said...

maybe you should clear it when we get done with short stories. (but this is just a suggestion)

Anonymous said...

is this okay for a citation. ""(pg. #, column #

Anonymous said...

)

Anonymous said...

alright, so if my aspect of humanity thingy is sacrifice, then i would have to show how she shows sacrifice?????

Anonymous said...

CITATIONS: "ldjflsdjfldjflj ldjfslj kfeijbeo kdjvwojveo " ({page number}). No column number needed.
And, Ethan, good idea on the clean up of the comments. They are GREAT for review here and now. Later , I will set it so fewer appear on the screen list at once. Fortunately, the blog is still clean, just the growing number of smart freshman using the resource!

Anonymous said...

YES, JACK!!! I do believe you got it! :)

Anonymous said...

the wrd verifacashun thngy tkes way 2 mch of my tme

Anonymous said...

exactly, or maybe you can just make a separate comment sheet for when we start a new subject

Anonymous said...

"the wrd verifacashun thngy tkes way 2 mch of my tme"
....SO cracked me up!! I needed the laugh, thanks! Ah, stress relief. Now, I'm ready for more!

Anonymous said...

can you give me an example of how to transition to my next idea

Anonymous said...

Jack, I can , but it is difficult w/o specifics.
LINK EXAMPLE BETWEEN IDEAS: apple to orange...they are both fruits, so a sentence about fruits between the specific sentences about each separate fruit. Remember how we talked about the connection between the "how to write a conclusion" and the "turkey meat wrapped pickle"? We talked about how we could connect them ---LINK them. That is how to transition between ideas: what do they have in common for your purpose?

Anonymous said...

im gonna fail

Anonymous said...

in my body paragraph, do i talk about the aspects of humanity that the characters show or not?

Anonymous said...

Jack, your not alone. Me as well

Anonymous said...

JACK! You are NOT going to fail. First, your going to take a LONG, DEEP, and slow breath. Then you are going to get a big drink of water, not pop or juice, plain water. If you were not in the class connecting the conclusion to the pickle thing, we connected something else. Don't even try to think on that.

NOW, DRINK OF WATER; then, read your intro and conclusion that you already have cleaned up and mostly ready to go. That is a huge chunk aleardy done.

CHECK what the two or three different pieces you have to explain/discuss for your thesis to be proven. These will be your main ideas/points for each body paragraph on your paper. Simple. IF you're stuck, look at the examples you already chose on the prewriting sheet of the packet; they can "tell" you what you have in your brain already -to put on the paper. One example from the story per paragraph is all you need (though, yes, you could have more than one).

TAKE ANOTHER DRINK OF WATER.

BREATHE. Is the TV and music turned off? good.

It is okay if you are using MEL-CON if the MEL-CON is not exact. I will not be checking the MELELELEL... just reading for flow.

Before you know it, you'll be done.

Anonymous said...

What do we dowhen we link to the thesis

Anonymous said...

OMG i got it thx every1 for the help c u guys 2morrow!!!!
;)

Anonymous said...

I'm FREAKING OUT!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

My comment got lost!!! AURGH.

OK, Stephen, yes , the body paragraphs will have 'humanity' in them. Remember that the paper is in response to the prompt in the packet. Basically, what does the story show us about humanity (the specific aspect you picked).

Ken, when you link? like when you're done? {you celebrate!} Try a "This shows..." if you are really lost.

Anonymous said...

Ms. LaBeau
Do we need a bibliography?

Anonymous said...

I'm confused and i mean in the body paragraph

Anonymous said...

YEA!!!!! JACK! It was the drink of water, wasn't it?

Ken, see the long post to Jack. Or, Jack, advise Ken.

Freaking out is normal. I freaked on the ridiculously long paper I did last year, too. Then I got it right. You can ,too. BREATHE.

SRI,
I'm going to have you look up and find the answer in an earlier comment; it's there... :)

HAVE FUN EVERYONE! I've about one more minute here.
Ms. LaBeau

Anonymous said...

Now i'm really freaking out man!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I forgot my book at school. is there a way to find it online and its contents? like an online book?

Anonymous said...

KEN, Seriously, the comments I left to Jack, will help you; he had body paragraph issues, too. I think he was working with MEL-CON. Look at the comment I last gave him about the paper and try it out.

The process helps to clear the head and focus your thinking a bit better.

Anonymous said...

Dude, no book on-line for you. Ouch. Maybe google the title (in quotes) to find the story; citing the page numbe would be a mess, but maybe you could hit the space bar a few times for it, look up the exact page tomorrow at school, and write it in the space.

Anonymous said...

ok. whats the name of the book?

Anonymous said...

THANKS A LOT

Anonymous said...

I am logging off shortly; you CAN answer one another's questions. I've seen and heard you do it. Help one another here.

I will leave one last comment soon.

Anonymous said...

like the actual English book itslef. not the story i'm doing for the paper.

Anonymous said...

Paxton, name of the story, not the book. You won't find the book on-line for the help you need. BUT you may find the short story on-line, the same short story as in your textbook.

Anonymous said...

augggg i cant get my paper that i wrote at school to come up on this computer so now i gotta totally restart my paper and i dont remember what i said in the last one i biked like 6 miles today so im tired and i dont know if id have enough time in study hall to finish the essay i already have almost done what should i do restart and have it be a bad paper or risk cramming it last minute to get a good paper

Anonymous said...

I got the qoute. thanks.

Anonymous said...

eric, what are you trying to do? that netstorage thing?

Anonymous said...

yea its not working what do i do

Anonymous said...

THIS IS MY FINAL POST.

Paxton, you are awesome for responding to Eric; Eric, maybe he can explain where you are having troubles. Netstorage (at the bottom of Fremd page) SHOULD work for you.

As per the question betwee the bad paper (restarted) and good paper (finish what you've already started), go for the good paper.

Netstorage is operating correctly....

Anonymous said...

paxton can you please tell tell me what to do for netstorage and is this the paxton from my spanish class?

Anonymous said...

eric, go the fremd webpage. then scroll down to the bottom and look for the link called Netstorage. click on it. it should open a new window with two beige links that say netsorage login 1 and netstorage login 2. i clicked on the number one. after you do that, it will bring you to an error page. on of the links at the bottom will be a link that says continue anyway. click on that. it will ask you for your user id and password. that is just your school login. type that in. it should take you to a screen that has your "h" drive and other stuff on it. click on the one that has your last name in it. just like you would at school. find your document you want. then double click on it. it might open a new window that is blank but at the top of it, it will say that it has blocked a pop up or whatever. RIGHT click on it and select download file. it will then open a download screen. click open and there you go. jsut remember to click the accept changes icon at the top of the document to save. the icon looks like a peice of paper witha pencil and a checkmark on it. food luck.

Anonymous said...

and yea. i'm in your spanish class.

Anonymous said...

eric u there

Anonymous said...

arggg it doesnt work it just not evening showing up and i know i saved it because that how ive gotten to the same document at school for the past 3 days so whatever i'll try finishing it in study hall i hope i finish it good luck to everyone writing their papers and thanks paxton for helping
